Week 5: July 6-10 (Minecraft Engineering/Robotics and Intro to Drones)
Week 6: July 13-17 (Game Design with Minecraft and App Building)
Camp Hours are from 9 a.m to 3:30 p.m. Campers will meet at the north end of school at the bus loop (Shenandoah Street). Parents have to sign an attendance sheet in the morning and the afternoon in order to drop off and pick up their child. Early drop off is available at 8:30 a.m. Once the children are assembled, camp staff will escort the children up to the computer lab. There they will learn skills and participate in activities which will guide them through their game design and engineering projects.  All camp counselors are skilled with computers and interacting with kids to create a positive learning environment as well as ensure your child is kept safe at all times.

Program Content

At the end of the week, campers will have a better understanding on the world around them with first hand experience. Many programs including Minecraft, Lego Robotics, and Game Maker will be used in the computer lab to teach them Engineering and Game Design Concepts. Camper will get an introduction to computer programming where no previous knowledge is required. Various levels from beginner to advanced will be taught, in addition campers will have "Unplugged" time twice a day to get out of the computer lab for recess.

Engineering

This program will introduce a better understanding of computer hardware and software as the campers will learn the parts of a computer and how to program them. The basics of engineering will be introduced as campers will also go through the steps necessary to program and actually utilize a Lego® robot. Then, campers will gain a better understanding of the physics behind rockets as they simulate their very own rocket launches. Minecraft will also be used at this camp to train your children with electrical, nuclear, and mechanical engineering concepts through a simple game they already know and love.

Game Design

This Program will introduce a better understanding to their favorite games showing them first hand how to create their own games. The basics of game design will be introduced through the animation style of pivot with its simple controls and limitless possibilities. Then, campers will make their own games using three different methods; Game Maker, Python3, and Scratch. Scratch is an easy drag and drop style of coding where campers can let their imaginations take over as they have every command at their disposal. On the other hand, Python3 is a traditional console coding style used to teach campers the most common style. And somewhere in the middle is Game Maker where both styles are optional, a drag and drop feature or a write in console; Since Game Maker is such a versatile program many developers choose this on professional projects and we hope it will inspire campers to try their best as we always say "Never Give Up!".
